Media Studies AS/A2 Book Review

Media Studies AS/A2 is a textbook written by Jacquie Barnett and includes lots of information on the Media Course, and can be used as a revision resource before the exam. The book is well written and could be very helpul, as it also contains practice questions. There are also links to various websites relating to the textbook, and examinor tips on each page. There is a page relating to revision and essay writing techniques.

There are seven chapters in total, each with a number of subsections relating to the main chaptor.

The seven chapters are

  1. Key Concepts
  2. Media Language
  3. Media Forms
  4. Media Issues
  5. Media Debates
  6. Production
  7. Resources

Each of these chapters has content relating to all exam boards, including OCR, AQA and WJEC.

The book also contains revision checklists, to make sure you've covered all the content before entering the exam.

One of the main issues i had whilst reading this textbook, was the lack of images and diagrams. Although the publishers have tried to make it easy and interesting to read, it is lacking in images which break up long segments of text and make it easier to read overall.

The pages are also very similar to one another, which also makes this book uninteresting to read cover to cover, and is much more suited to refering to whilst studying for an exam or in class.

Overall a good book, which would be very helpful as a revision resource before an exam. Aswell as course content it also contains revision techniques and essay writing techniques.
